knowing Jerusalem

I'VE KNOWN HER ALL MY LIFE

I READ HER BOOKS I SANG HER SONGS
I WALKED HER STREETS
I'VE TAKEN HER PICTURES
I SHOPED IN HER MARKETS
I LIVED IN HER HOUSES
I PRAYED IN HER HOLY PLACES

I WAS IN RAIN, IN SNOW IN SUMMER.
IN SPRING, WHEN IT SMELLS LIKE FLOWERS

I SMELT JASMINE, I SMELT INCENSE
I SMELT THE FOODS, I SMELT THE PEOPLE.

I WAS A BABY
I WAS A CHILD
I WAS A TEENAGER
I WAS A SOLDIER
I WAS A STUDENT
I WAS A TOUR GUIDE

I AM IN IT, SHE IS MY HOME
BUT I STILL DON’T KNOW JERUSALEM
